In Opposing Marijuana, U.N. Finds Unusual Ally with U.S. Conservatives

Ever since the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) publically condemned the U.S. federal government’s acceptance of state marijuana legalization, the international organization has found support from some unusual allies. Many American conservative organizations have voiced support and agreement for UNODC, adding potential international treaty violations to their roster of arguments against marijuana legalization. Among these similar-minded organizations is Western Journalism Center, a conservative lobbying organization, which has criticized the manner in which President Obama has “looked the other way when it comes to enforcement” of marijuana laws.
