Rice farmers in Colombia are facing difficult economic times
as a result of climate change and unfair trade rules. Scientists at the
International Center for Tropical Agriculture had advised farmers to sow
immediately to avoid large decreases in yields due to dry weather and water
shortages. However, Fedearroz, Colombia’s principal organization for rice
growers, reviewed the recommendation and instead urged farmers to save their
resources for the next harvest. Colombian growers were saved from potential
ruin. Read more about these developments
