The U.N. security council has
authorized sanctions against anyone in Yemen who obstructs the country’s
political transition or commits human rights violations, though the sanctions
does not include a black list of specific individuals.
The sanctions
resolution, announced Feb. 26, was drafted by the British and was adopted
unanimously. It delegates to a newly created U.N. sanctions committee for Yemen
the ability to impose asset freezes and bans on specific individuals. The
committee will be comprise of all 15 U.N. Security Council members.
