The so-called “Occupy Central with Peace and Love” started
in Hong Kong’s major financial district, Central, where many global law firms
are located.
Some global law firms reacted by allowing staff to work from
home, as public transportation became more difficult to use. According to The
Asian Lawyer, while daily operations have been interrupted for many law
firms, Hong Kong-based lawyers claimed that their practices are largely
unaffected because most of the work can be done remotely by calls and emails.
However, as neither the protestors nor Beijing seem likely to budge, law firms
are unclear how the future will unfold for them.
